Redesign for growth, a new Center for Noventa Vicentina
open competition
Client: Municipality of Noventa Vicentina (Vi)
Location: Noventa Vicentina (VI)
Date: 2024
Designer: Annacarla Secchi
Through the redesign and redefinition of the road section of via Carlo Porta, the project emphasises the belonging of this axis to a wider network of public spaces, which from the churchyard of the Cathedral of Santi Vito Modesto and Crescenzia reaches the new urban square.
The roadway is kept two-way, of constant width and suitable for the transit of heavy vehicles; in this way it allows the widening of the sidewalks of both the south and the north side, the insertion of a two-way cycle path along the north side and where possible level parking.
The urban square - the terminal for urban public transport
The project interprets this area as the opportunity for the creation of a large open space, a public space designed to be mobilised by people.
The new artefacts planned, build on this stretch of urban axis a prospectus and an open and accessible profile, clearly recognisable.
Under a large inclined roof, consisting of a high stretch sheet metal shelter, supported by a grid of thin beams and steel uprights, the circulation is free and the articulation of the spaces is marked and drawn by the pavement.
The project involves the construction of a new building, whose volume is equal to that of the warehouses that exist today and destined for demolition.
It is a parallelepiped-shaped building with a rectangular base with a single floor and entirely built in double-walled U-Glass. Inside there is a bar-restaurant, a waiting room - ticket office, toilets.
The historic building, as indicated, is also maintained in its function as a bar restaurant. Around it there is an area where it is possible to organise refreshment areas with umbrellas and tables.
With regard to the function of local transport terminal, the project adopts the road indications provided by the call and provides for the construction of a road for the exclusive use of public transport, with a double lane but with a single direction of travel, to allow the parking and parking of a higher number of vehicles at the same time.
